NHS midwives Gill Perks and Jo Killingly have teamed up with mum Louise Morrison to launch online antenatal classes

Foster carers and new mums can find out the best way to care for a newborn from the new internet service, Antenatal Online (www.antenatalonline.co.uk).
Founder Louise Morrison (pictured below with daughter Evie) says: "As well as being useful to first time parents, Antenatal Online is helpful as a refresher for parents-to-be who already have children. The postnatal videos can also be used by foster parents, giving them invaluable up to date information on issues such as swaddling, sleeping and health that will make a real difference to those early days and weeks with a new baby."

Louise with daughterIf you’re not able to make any classes near you, this is a wonderful alternative as you can watch the videos where and whenever you like... over and over again.
Midwife Jo Killingley says: “Many areas don’t run antenatal classes anymore and those which do are limited by funds and time, meaning the availability and quality of antenatal advice and support on offer varies.”

The site is ideal for those who are new to caring for infants, or those with mother and baby placements. Jo, an NHS midwife from Bedfordshire, said: “Most midwives just don’t have the time or resources to give this type of advice and yet it’s invaluable. Babies need love and nurturing and it is a very natural process for many new parents. But these classes give parents the confidence to relax and trust their instincts, making feeding and caring for the baby an altogether more positive experience.”

You’ll find online videos on labour, birth, relaxation, feeding, nappy changing, bathing and taking care of the baby in the early days. plus one-to-one support from a midwife. You can also chat online with other parents-to-be and take part in a weekly midwife web chat.

Parents can access all 11 pregnancy and birth classes for just £55. For more information visit www.antenatalonline.co.uk.
